Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia is implementing the Big Futures in-school mentoring program in secondary schools in Sherbrooke, Boronia, Upwey, Belgrave and Upper Ferntree Gully . We require volunteer mentors to spend one hour a week with a young person in a school setting during the school year. The aim of the mentor is to build a friendship with the student and provide them with support and encouragement so that they are motivated to do their best at school and develop positive pathways into the future. Identifying the young student’s strengths and helping them unlock their potential.

Mentor Training: Yes, training is provided for mentors
Training Process of Mentors Mentor candidates must undertake an e-learning (on-line) training component and orientation training. The Mentor Co-ordinator reserves the right not to continue with the mentor candidate if they find during the e-learning training and orientation training that they are not suitable as a mentor.

Screening Process of Mentors: Undertake a Criminal Records Police Check Obtain a Current Working with Children Check Undertake an interview, providing two reference checks Undertake on-line training and face-to-face orientation
Mentor Position Description: The aim of the mentor is to build a friendship with the student and provide them with support and encouragement so that they are motivated to do their best at school and develop positive pathways into the future. Mentor Minimum Commitment: 12 months during the school term.
