Break Through offers young people (16-25 years) the opportunity to work 1:1 with an employment focused mentor from the local business community. These mentors are volunteers and are supported by their employers to participate. The aim of the program is to assist young people to overcome barriers preventing them from working and to improve their skills, knowledge base and confidence to go out and find employment and be able to sustain it.

Training Process of Mentors Mentors complete a 9 week TAFE training course that consists of one 3 hour lesson once a week. Mentors will be taught the concepts of mentor and how these principles relate to the Break Through program as well as employment focused information.
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: Businesses that support the program, nominate staff that would be suitable and also interested in participating in the program. They then complete an EOI form that is forwarded to the Program Coordinator and they will then be contacted to meet face to face with the Program Coordinator.
Mentor Position Description: Mentors will work 1:1 with one young person (mentee) and assist them to set goals and create a career pathway for themselves as well as provide practical guidance relating to the workforce and what employers are looking for. Mentors will help the mentees with things like: creating a resume and cover letter, interviewing techniques, identifying strengths, building confidence and sourcing information regarding employment opportunities and training options.
Mentor Minimum Commitment: The mentor will need to commit to the 9 week training course and 15 mentoring sessions that last approximately 1 hour (10 weekly and 5 fortnightly).
