Positive Mentoring Program Outline: 8 week x 2 hour course with an hour debrief half way and on completion of course, 4 weeks kayaks and 4 weeks mountain bike training. Stretching before and after each session.
Each week has a theme to establish with the mentee.
Week 1 Kayak: Establish safety rules and team mentality in shallow water setting; assist mentees to feel comfortable in their boats. The theme is safety and self responsibility. Launch location Emu Point. Check tides for water depth.
Week 2 Kayak: Assist mentees to safely paddle across the Emu Point channel and explore the eastern side of Oyster Harbor. The theme is self-confidence and decision making. Launch location Emu Point. Check tides for water depth.
Week 3 Kayak: Deep water paddling up the King River. The Theme is respect for both yourself and others. Launch location is King River Estate.
Week 4 Kayak: Deep water paddling up the Kalgan River. The theme is self-insight, seeing what is inside and turning towards the positive. Launch location lower Kalgan Bridge. â€¢ Half Way debrief for an hour at an outdoor setting.
Week 5 Mountain Bike: Establish safety rules and team mentality on a flat part of the Munda Biddi Trail: assist mentees to know their bike. The theme is self-resilience who is in charge. Location Elleker.
Week 6 Mountain Bike: Over the hills and down the dales, assisting mentees to feel comfortable riding up and down hills. The theme is self-management because life is a roller coaster of highs and lows. Location Mount Clarence and Mount Adelaide.
Week 7 Mountain Bike: Distance ride to establish fitness with a reward of lunch at the completion of the journey. Theme is setting goals and creating outcomes. Location Albany to Elleker.
Week 8 Mountain Bike: Town ride to Emu Point and return. Theme preventative health . Location Young Street to Emu Point and return.
Completion debrief for an hour at an outdoor setting.
