Raise Foundation is a registered charity with DGR and TCC status which contributes to the health and wellbeing of teenagers in our community. We provide school and community based mentoring and personal development workshops for young people who are facing profound challenges in their lives. We run four main mentoring programs, one in high schools called Ismo (In School Mentoring Opportunity), one for young pregnant or parenting girls called Bump which extends to include Bump Up, one with the support of the NSW Government for young people in years 8 and 9 in high school called Youth Frontiers, and one for Year 11 students moving into their final year of school called Career.

Training Process of Mentors Raise Foundation has accredited mentor training run in partnership with the Northern Sydney Institute, a part of TAFE, and is a 15 hour comprehensive training course. Attendees receive a statement of attainment in the Course in Mentoring, and covers topics such as mentoring, listening skills, questioning skills, adolescent development, mandatory reporting, values and boundaries, mental health issues, alcohol and other drugs, generational differences and personality styles. We believe that mentors make a huge impact in a young person's life, and they need the skills and experience required to engage with young people and our training provides this on a very comprehensive level.

Screening Process of Mentors: As with any mentoring program where there is matching of an older person with a younger person and there is a perceived or potential power difference, it is of utmost importance that we ensure there is no inappropriate abuse of that power. Raise Foundation has a detailed and comprehensive policy which demonstrates the strong commitment of Raise Foundation to child safety and establishing and maintaining child safe and child friendly environments. This policy reflects our commitment to provide a safe environment where every person has the right to be treated with respect and every child is safe and protected from harm. It complies with our obligations under the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, and the relevant amendments and regulations in 2013. Under this policy, all mentors and volunteers must complete a Working With Children Check, a National Crime Check, submit two references, and complete our comprehensive mentor training program which is conducted by one of our qualified Program Counsellors who completes a range of activities as a group, and as individuals, to ensure the high quality of the volunteers who come to Raise. Mentors are then connected to the program of their choice, which is also run by a qualified Program Counsellor who conducts individual and group supervision on a weekly basis with each mentor.
Mentor Position Description: Title - Volunteer Mentor for Raise Foundation. Primary Function - To mentor your allocated mentee by being a positive role model at the weekly meetings and workshops, once completing the compulsory Course in Mentoring training program through TAFE. The definition of mentoring is the development of a one-on-one relationship where a more experienced person helps a less experienced person to identify and achieve their goals. Selection Criteria - Genuine interest in the wellbeing of young people; Ability to develop a partnership with a young person and act as a positive role model; Minimum of 25 years of age, as appropriate; Ability to meet the minimum requirements for contact; Willingness to undergo the Raise Foundation selection process including appropriate security checks. Raise Foundation has a comprehensive Position Description which is given to all mentors during training, as well as a Code of Conduct, and various other documentation to assist in the role of Mentor.
Mentor Minimum Commitment: The commitment of Raise mentors is to complete our TAFE accredited training program, complete one hour per week or one day per month of face-to-face mentoring for up to one year, complete one hour weekly or monthly session of supervision and debrief, conduct a civic project with their mentee as part of the regular meeting sessions, attend the graduation celebration at the conclusion of the program, and participate in regular evaluation surveys as required.
