Training Process of Mentors Mentors attend a 10 hour training program .This training covers the rationale for mentoring, the philosophy of the program, the role of a mentor, adolescent development, stages of a mentoring relationship and support for setting up and maintaining a relationship. We also offer ongoing training for all active mentors.
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: Prospective mentors submit an application which involves the identification of two people who will act as referees. The mentors are then interviewed and if found suitable they undergo a working with children check. The mentors are given a two day training where they are observed and then matched with a student. During the relationship the mentors are observed so the screening is continuous.
Mentor Position Description: Mentors are people who: are non-judgemental; are prepared to attend training at dates specified; have a commitment towards developing young people through coaching and feedback; having an affinity with and respect for young people; have a willingness to share personal experiences to aid their development; are skilled interpersonal communicators; have confidence in their own abilities; are respected role models;
Mentor Minimum Commitment: Mentors commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 1 year
