Glenwood Community Mentoring program’s mission is to build confidence and to see the development of personal and career goals in the young people involved by linking their learning to real life outcomes.

Mentor Training: Yes, training is provided for mentors
Training Process of Mentors A formal training day face to face is carried out at the school premise. In this session, mentors are provided with training and appropriate resources to enable them to perform their roles. Training includes:
  • understanding of mentoring
  • roles, responsibilities, expectations and boundaries
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: Mentors are interviewed on the phone for suitability. Mentors need:
  • Commitment to participate in one to one monthly sessions for one year at Glenwood High School premises
  • Meets the DEC appendix 3 - 'Applicant declaration and consent' which provides child protection and safety checks.
  • Confirm identity (100 points ID)
  • Driver's license and comprehensive car insurance policy provided if student to be driven by Mentor during shadowing
Mentor Position Description:
  • Promote personal growth and development of the student
  • To help the mentee to gain knowledge, skills and career exploration assistance
  • To help the mentee experience the world of work through shadowing opportunities
  • Encourage and guide the mentee to enhance opportunities available to them
Mentor Minimum Commitment: From March to December of a calendar year
