The Latrobe Community L2P Driver Education Program, with its ‘120hrs driving to P Plates’ aims to reduce road trauma trends associated with young people, through the provision of structured, supervised driver practice in accordance with VicRoads requirements. Further, the objective is to increase equity of opportunity through specific resourcing and better prepare disadvantaged young people to attain the 120 hours of driving experience necessary for them to obtain their Probationary Drivers Licence.

The Latrobe Community L2P Driver Education Program is open to young people aged 16 to 20 years who reside in the Latrobe municipality and who do not have access to the support and resources necessary to achieve the 120 hours of driving experience required for obtaining their probationary drivers licence. The program aims to:
1. Assist disadvantaged young people to get the support they need to get their licence.
2. Advocate safe and lawful driving practice among younger drivers.
3. Recruit and train volunteers from the community to develop a positive mentoring relationship with learner drivers.
4. Promote and encourage connectedness with the local community.

Training Process of Mentors Potential mentors will be required to attend an 8 - 10 hour training package designed by VicRoads which covers aspects of driver safety, the driver coaching/supervisor role, working with young people, to mention a few.
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: Potential mentors will be screened through two interviews, assessed throughout the VicRoads training and will also undergo various checks including Working with Children, a Police Check and a Licence Check.
Mentor Position Description: The Key Role for mentors will be to supervise and coach learner drivers to assist them attain the necessary 120 hours of driving experience needed before they can apply for their Probationary Drivers Licence.
Mentor Minimum Commitment: A minimum of one or two hours a week.
