The Plan-it Youth Mentoring Program is a well established mentoring program working in high schools across the Hunter Region. This is a 10—12 week program where a group of mentors meet weekly with selected students from Years 9/10 to help them determine how their future could look, to help them learn about career pathways, and to work out a strategy for their high school years.

Training Process of Mentors All Plan it Youth Hunter mentors attend a two day mentor training course to provide them with a consistent approach to mentoring that includes strategies for mentoring coupled with practical examples. All Plan it Youth Hunter mentors are part of a team of mentors under the guidance of a Team Leader. Ongoing support is provided by team members and networking with mentors from other Plan it Youth schools.
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: All Plan it Youth Hunter mentors are required to attend initial mentor training which confirms their suitability as a youth mentor. In addition, all Plan it Youth Hunter mentors are required to undertake a Working with Children check prior to entering school premises.
Mentor Position Description: Mentoring is the development of a one-on-one relationship where a more experienced person helps a less experienced person achieve their goals. Plan-it Youth offers young people the opportunity to plan for their next step into education, training or employment. A mentor can assist this process by offering their experience, support and guidance on a one-on-one basis.
Mentor Minimum Commitment: A minimum commitment of availability for 1-2 hours one day per week for the duration of the 10 week program is required.
