The THRIVE (Transforming Health, Relationships, Innovation, Vocation, Education) has established a youth mentoring initiative in the Break O’Day Municipality, Tasmania. The program will initially operate through the St Helens District High School in St Helens and will commence operation in May 2016. Following an initial period of operation, the program will be extended into the St Marys High School. 15 volunteer mentors have undertaken an intensive 2 day training program, and a matching process with students who are considered to be “under the radar” and in need of the assistance is nearing completion. We intend to recruit and train additional mentors with a goal of providing at least 10% of the school community with an adult mentor.
