True Blue Dreaming is a youth and community development program that provides young people with mentors to inspire them and build their potential. Specifically we focus on areas such as personal growth, thriving communities, health and wellbeing, environmental stewardship, and enterprise development. True Blue Dreaming is a journey of discovery. Communities have a strong sense of ownership over their program; with a 7 year track record, we have shaped the program in partnership with both young people and mentors.

Training Process of Mentors 6 week Course with Trainer & Research Expert in Mentoring
Mentor Screening: Yes, screening is provided for mentors
Screening Process of Mentors: Mentors will be required to partake in or attain the following - Interview Approved Working with Children Check, Criminal History Check, ongoing monitoring
Mentor Position Description:
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be interested in working with young people
  • Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Be willing to complete the application and selection process
  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
  • Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed
  • Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit brief activity information and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
  • Have a clean criminal history Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner in the presence of a mentee
  • Not currently be in treatment for problematic substance use and have a non-addictive period of at least five years
  • Not currently be in treatment for a mental illness that affects your ability to carry out your role as a mentor

A mentor should also have the following desirable qualities:

  • Encouraging and supportive
  • Patient and flexible
  • Tolerant and respectful of individual differences
Mentor Minimum Commitment: 12 months - with possibility to extend
